Wildflower

May your life be like a wildflower, growing freely in the beauty and joy of each day. - North American Proverb

Years ago I attended a meditation & creativity retreat. Following a meditation session, we were asked to spend some time out in nature and to find a symbol to focus and reflect upon. I found a spot on a grassy road behind the retreat center, where a beautiful purple wildflower bravely emerged from the dirt and weeds. The road wasn't often used, but I imagined on occasion that flower was trampled on or driven over. Next time, would it swing back to life or would it soon be broken? Whatever the case, while I was there that week I visited that little, beautiful flower every day on my daily walk. It was strong and straight and reaching for the sun. It was delicate, beautiful and graceful. It was resilient, hopeful and brave despite its perilous location. In the present, despite what the future might bring, it fearlessly stood in its beauty, as a gift to the world.

If we pay attention we can learn a lot from wildflowers.

How will you stand in your beauty and strength today?

Can you gently treat yourself as a beautiful, unfolding flower? What care and attention do you need?

Will you fully and uniquely bloom, without comparison to other flowers?

Like a wildflower, can you grow in a place that others may have thought you couldn't?

What actions are required now to help you turn towards the light, and emerge from the darkness and dirt?

To bloom fully, is there any weeding to be done?

Can you do something today to help you blossom, right where you are planted?

Can you be both vulnerable and strong?
